WINDOW REPLACEMENT
Replacing windows often improves the energy efficiency and appearance of a home. There are many types of windows which vary significantly in quality and cost. Vinyl windows are made from extruded polyvinyl chloride(PVC), have become the industry standard because of their durability, efficiency, and maintainability. Before investing in windows, determine which type is best for the function of space, look of the home, and features that are most important to you.

Double Hung Window - A double hung window is the most common window, and is designed to fit an opening that is taller than it is wide. Double hung windows have two vertically moving sashes, each with a convenient tilt-in feature for easy cleaning and come standard with a half-screen. You may choose to upgrade to a full screen on a double hung window.

Picture Windows - are non-operable but often offer the most light into a room making it appear larger. Picture windows can be made into many shapes allowing you to replace the arch, palladian (as shown), octagon, trapezoid, and circle windows with new energy efficient windows.

Casement - are great replacement window options as they allow the maximum ventilation. These windows crank open and offer air flow through the entire space. Casement screens are installed on the interior of the house.

Sliding Windows - are a great solution to a large opening where the width is greater than the height. Sliders are available as 2 lite sliders where both sides slide or a 3 lite slider with two operating sides and a stationary center. Most sliders offer and upgrade to tilt in for easy cleaning. You may choose a 1/2" screen or full screen on sliding windows.

Bay Windows - create additional dimension to your room. They are often a combination of operable and non-operable windows with a seat board at the bottom.

Garden Windows - are the perfect solution for over a kitchen sink. They are great for having flower pots or herbs over your sink.
Other Window Options
U-Factor - The U-value is the amount of heat that escapes. The rate of heat loss is indicated in terms of the U-factor (U-value). This rate of non-solar heat loss or gain through a whole window assembly is measured in Btu/hr-sf - F. The lower the U-factor, the greater a window's resistance to heat flow and the better its insulating value.
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) - The SHGC is the fraction of incident solar radiation admitted through a window. SHGC is expressed as a number between 0 and 1. The lower a window's solar heat gain coefficient, the less solar heat it transmits and the better the shading. Whether a higher or lower SHGC is desirable depends on the climate, orientation, shading conditions, and other factors.
Visible Transmittance (VT) - The VT is an optical property that indicates the % of visible light transmitted. VT is a whole window rating and includes the impact of the frame which does not transmit any visible light. While VT theoretically varies between 0 and 1, most values are between 0.3 and 0.7. The higher the VT, the more light is transmitted.
Air Leakage (AL) - AL is expressed in cubic feet of air passing through a square foot of window area (cfm/sf). The lower the AL, the less air will pass through cracks in the assembly. AL is very important, but not as important as U-factor and SHGC. AL is an optional rating on the NFRC label.
Condensation Resistance (CR) - CR measures how well a window resists the formation of condensation on the inside surface. CR is expressed as a number between 1 and 100. The higher the number, the better a product is able to resist condensation. CR is meant to compare products and their potential for condensation formation. CR is an optional rating on the NFRC label.

- No grids - is one of the most popular in window replacement as it offers a crisp and clean view without any obstruction.
- Grids between the glass - are popular because they create the look of the traditional grid while offering easy cleaning.
- Obscure Glass - is a great option for a bathroom window. Obscure glass allows light into the room but provides privacy at the same time.
- Blinds between-the-glass - allows you to control the light coming into the room as well as provide privacy.
- Window Tinting - is also available from most window manufactures.
